Audrey Wessels Scearce unofficially holds the Republican nomination for Wharton County Treasurer pending potential recount.
Unofficial early voting totals released by the Wharton County Elections Office early Tuesday evening showed Christa Lynch Albrecht leading Scearce by 147 votes; however, tallied Joint Primary Election Day votes show Scearce took the lead, but only by one.
Totals (unofficial) for the election show Scearce – 1,882 and Albrecht – 1,881.
With a race this close, election officials will look to the guidance of the Texas Secretary of State and prepare for a recount to be called.
Mail-in ballots postmarked by election day will also be counted.
Since there is no Democratic challenger in this race, the winner of this nomination will take office as the Wharton County Treasurer Jan. 1, 2023.
The March 1st Joint Primary Election in Wharton County had less than 5,000 voters out of the 24,655 registered voters — 4,253 voted in the Republican Primary and 734 voted in the Democratic Primary.
