The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of a wreck that killed three.
DPS officials said the three young women were killed in a traffic accident just outside Hungerford late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
The exact time of occurrence is currently unknown to investigators.
The three women were heading southbound on Highway 59 near County Road 214 when their car, a 2015 Kia Optima, veered into the inside lane, overcorrected and then, left the road.
After rolling multiple times, the vehicle went into the ditch alongside the highway, coming to a stop in the brush near the railroad track.
All passengers were ejected during the crash.
20-year-old Briana Hernandez, 18-year-old Bianca Hernandez and 19-year-old Miranda Deases, all of El Campo, were pronounced dead at the scene by Wharton County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Glenn Russell.
Officials did state it is believed that none of the women were wearing seatbelts.
