Wharton Rotary Club Presents 29th Annual “Legends Of Western Music” Gala

Dust off your boots, heels and hats! The Wharton Rotary Club is bringing country music artist Doug Stone to the Wharton Civic Center stage on September 25.

Forced to cancel last year’s gala, Wharton Rotary Club President Steve Cochrane said, “It’s good to be back.”

Each September, the organization brings big names in country music to little ole Wharton as a way to provide entertainment for the community, and to raise funds for the organization’s charity work.

“Every scholarship and donation on behalf of Wharton Rotary hinges on this fundraiser,” Cochrane told The County Gin.

“We average about $65,000 each year raised from the gala, and we turn around and put those funds back into our community.”

Donations range from educational scholarships to the Boys and Girls Club, and from local sporting organizations to local reading programs.

About The Gala

The club kicks off the evening at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour. Event sponsorships will have an opportunity to meet and pose for a photo with Doug Stone in the VIP room.

A meal provided by Hinze’s Barbecue will be served at 6:30 p.m., and a live auction will begin shortly after.

Throughout the entire evening, the organization will have a silent auction in the center’s pre-function area.

Historically, auctions items range from hunting trips to major sporting event tickets, and from gift baskets to gourmet snack baskets.

Doug Stone takes the stage at 8 p.m.

About The Concert

Doug Stone is an American country music artist with eight #1 singles, eleven top 10 singles, and over 10 million albums sold.

His list of hits include, “I’d Be Better Off (In A Pine Box),” and, “In a Different Light.”

Stone might not be the only artist to take the stage. His bride, Jade Jack Brooks is a fiddler and singer who often takes the stage with her husband and his band.

“The husband and wife duo will be fun to watch,” Cochrane said. “I know Jade Jack Brooks lived in and worked in Wharton for a while and still has ties to the community.”

The attire listed on the event’s promotion says western attire, however, Cochrane said, “Come as you are.”

“You know, spurs and buckles aren’t really required,” he joked. “If western attire is your thing, by all means wear your hats, spurs and belts. But for those who might not have that style, you’re welcome in whatever feels comfortable.”

Concert tickets start at $35, and general admission tickets including the meal portion of the evening start at $60.

So, plan a date night for Saturday, Sept. 25 and come on out to the Wharton Civic Center.

Sit and enjoy the concert, but we must warn you… You may find yourself tapping a toe, or even twirling your date around the dance floor.

Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased through eventbrite, or by reaching out to any Wharton Rotary Club member.
