Letters sent home with students on Monday, alerted parents to an investigation involving a staff member using inappropriate actions toward students.
“The district is aware of recent allegations made against a Wharton ISD elementary staff member regarding using inappropriate physical prompts with students at the Wharton Elementary campus,” Wharton ISD Superintendent Michael O’Guin Sr. stated.
According to the letter, the staff member was removed from the elementary campus.
While the alleged perpetrator name has not yet been released, WISD assured parents that matters will be addressed, the safety of students is a top priority and allegations of this nature are taken seriously.
“The administration is currently conducting a thorough investigation of the allegations and will address any findings appropriately at the conclusion of the investigation,” O’Guin said.
“Although federal law mandates student confidentiality and state law and local policy mandate the confidentiality of any specific personnel action, I can confirm that action will be taken to aptly address this matter.
“We assure you that the safety of our students is our number one priority. We are committed to ensuring that all students are in a safe, secure environment at all of our campuses and we will act quickly when this commitment is compromised.”
The County Gin will closely follow this investigation and report findings when made publicly available.
