The Wharton County Grand Jury met on Tuesday, Nov. 3 and handed down an indictment to Brandon Shimek for murder.

According to the El Campo Police Department, dispatch received an ambulance call to 1208 Alvin Street at 2:24 p.m. on Sept. 7. Patrol officers were also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found Justin Wayne Lipinski, 32, lying in the driveway, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Patrol officers secured the scene and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was called out. The investigation, according to ECPD, went through the afternoon, into the late night and early morning.

At 2:25 a.m. on Sept. 8, Shimek, 26, was arrested on a warrant for the alleged murder of Lipinski.

ECPD was assisted in the investigation by the Texas Rangers and the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office.
