Indictments among 68 handed down by Wharton County Grand Jury on September 4

A Kendleton man who led Wharton Police Department on a high-speed chase with speeds exceeding more than 100 miles per hour down Wharton County roads was indicted by the Wharton County Grand Jury on Sept. 4.

On the morning of July 8, WPD was dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Family Dollar on Boling Highway.

Following the pursuit, Darryl Hawthorne, 58, was taken into custody with the assistance of Texas DPS patrol on FM 2919 in Kendleton.

“After a pursuit that traversed many city streets and county roads, we’re happy that the alleged bad guy was caught and that everyone involved went home safe, less the robber, who went to jail,” WPD Public Information Officer Det. Ariel Soltura told The County Gin.

According to Wharton County District Attorney Dawn Allison, Hawthorne was indicted by the Wharton County Grand Jury on charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

The indictments were among 68 handed down during the meeting of the grand jury. Only the names of individuals who have been arrested can be released, including:

  • Artemis Randle for burglary of a habitation;
  • Ronald Richards for engaging in organized criminal activity;
  • Jayden Wilson for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon;
  • Alannah Mason for robbery;
  • Severiano Rodriguez for invasive visual recording;
  • Steven Torres for injury to an elderly individual;
  • Carolyn Hudson for theft with two or more previous convictions;
  • Ethan Ortiz for theft ($2,500-$30,000);
  • April Wilson for theft ($2,500-$30,000);
  • Lebron Bellard for aggravated assault family violence by impeding breath or circulation;
  • Airren Carranza for robbery;
  • Jurvon Bryant for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram);
  • Alannah Mason for possession of a controlled substance PG 2 (4-400 grams) and possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram);
  • Christian Clements for theft of a firearm and burglary of a motor vehicle with two or more previous convictions;
  • Tony Delacruz for injury to a child;
  • Johnny Barrientes for endangering a child and assault family violence by impeding breath or circulation;
  • Lawrence Melchor for assault family violence with a previous convictions;
  • Ralph McAfee Jr. for tampering;
  • Donald Johnson Jr. for three counts, including manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 (4-200 grams), tampering and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle;
  • Henry Gusman III for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (1-4 grams);
  • Jonathan Rodriguez for manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 (4-200 grams) and possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (4-200 grams);
  • Kimberly Bonnevier for possession of a controlled substance PG 3 (28-200 grams);
  • Casey Allen for possession of a controlled substance PG 3 (28-200 grams) and tampering;
  • Ryan Hoffman for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle;
  • Janeka Timmons for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon;
  • Erick Sanders for evading arrest or detention with a previous conviction;
  • Dustin Lewis for burglary of a habitation;
  • Angel Foreman for tampering and theft of a firearm;
  • Tre Munoz for three counts, including tampering, theft of a firearm and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle;
  • Christopher Hughes for assault family violence with a previous conviction;
  • Henry Stevens for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon;
  • Domingo Palacios for endangering a child;
  • Daveon Allen for aggravated assault family violence with a deadly weapon and cruelty to animals;
  • Sheila Varela for engaging in organized criminal activity;
  • Henry Valerio for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon;
  • Gernard Girdy for manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 (more than 400 grams) and engaging in organized criminal activity;
  • Jessie Rodriguez for manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 (more than 400 grams) and engaging in organized criminal activity;
  • Mark Gonzales for manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 (more than 400 grams) and engaging in organized criminal activity;
  • Benjamin Baylor for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon;
  • Ramon Barajas for money laundering and unlawful use of a criminal instrument;
  • Sofia Barrera for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram) and tampering;
  • Jose Marquez for possession of marijuana;
  • Samantha Nash for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram);
  • Eligo Benavidez for fraud;
  • Luis Martinez for fraud;
  • Krystal Baizabal for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram);
  • Angel Avila for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (less than 1 gram) and unlawful use of a motor vehicle;
  • Greg Gonzalez for money laundering; and
  • Braulio Reyes Jr. for money laundering.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
