When Wharton Police Department Chief Terry Lynch got the call on Monday afternoon to the blaze at 613 West Burleson Street, “Wharton (Volunteer Fire Department) was already battling the fire,” he said.
Along with Hungerford and Glen Flora Volunteer Fire Departments assisting in manpower and equipment, WVFD responded to the structure fire at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Though there were no injuries, the Wharton home was devastated as the three departments continued to battle the blaze into the afternoon.
“There were no persons in the home, but there were three dogs at the residence and I had Wharton Animal Control come get those animals to get them out of harm’s way,” Lynch told The County Gin. “They are safe and will be taken care of.
“In a situation like this, we are thankful that no one was injured or lost in the fire. It is devastating to lose items and objects; however, although hard to come by, they are replaceable. All we can pray for is everyone’s safety.”
Congratulations, on new source of Wharton County news, although I no longer reside there my heart is still in Wharton. I look forward to reading the news.
